Making A Scalloped Edge
If you don't have scallop-edged scissors or a
scallop template, it's easy to create your own!
1. Find a spool of thread that is the
approximate size of the scallops you desire & mark the diameter on the flat
end of the spool. |
2.
On the wrong side of the paper, measure the length of the edge you want to
scallop, find the center, then mark it.
In
my example, the paper edge measures 10", so I marked the center at 5". This
will allow you to have your scallops end up even on each side.

3. Position the spool so that it is 1/4" to
1/2" from the edge you want to scallop, then mark a line parallel to the
edge using your spool marks as a guide for line placement.
You will note that the line being drawn matches up to the
marks you made on the spool. You should also note that the edge of the
spool does not extend all the way to the paper edge, giving you room to
cut.

4. Drawing the first scallop:
Find the center mark you made on the paper. (In the example,
we find the mark I made on the 5" line).
Place the spool so that it is centered on that center mark.
Your spool should also be lined up so that the marks you made on the spool
are sitting on top of the parallel line you just drew. |
5. Draw a half circle around the spool that
begins and end on the parallel line. |

6. Continue drawing half-circle scallops to
each edge, making sure to line up your spool marks with the parallel line. |
7. Cut the scallops along your lines. |

8. Turn over to right side for finished
product. You can ink the edges or leave plain, then adhere to layout as
desired. |
